About the Task Timer
The Task Timer is a deep-focus tool built around one idea: decide how long a task should take before you start, then protect that time. Unlike a Pomodoro timer, which uses fixed work/break cycles, you choose the duration yourself based on what the work actually needs.
If you get distracted, pause. The clock only runs while you are locked in on one task. That makes each block a commitment — not a vague hope that you'll "get around to it." Your tasks and timer progress stay in this browser so a refresh won't wipe them out.
Why estimate first?
- It forces realistic planning instead of open-ended grinding
- A visible countdown creates healthy urgency without constant checking
- Finishing inside (or outside) your estimate teaches you how long work really takes
- Pausing when distracted keeps the timer honest about focused time
How to use it
- Enter a clear task title and your estimated minutes, then click Add Task
- Choose what you're focusing on with the Focus button or the current-task menu in the timer
- Press Start — the countdown is only for that task
- When time is up, you'll get a completion dialog and the browser tab title will flash if you're elsewhere
Tips for deep focus
- Be specific — "Reply to client email and attach invoice" beats "Email"
- Start with 25–60 minute blocks if you are unsure how long something takes
- Pause as soon as you leave the task; resume only when you return
- Review your estimates after a few sessions — over/under timing is useful feedback
